YOGA and WEIGHT LOSS

"You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down."M.Pickford

Welcome to yoga!

Yoga is one activity whose popularity has exploded in the past few years! Once viewed only as a religion, yoga is now accepted as a mainstream fitness regime. One of the oldest forms of exercise, physical evidence places the origins of yoga at 3,000 BC. In fact, many historians believe it was practiced thousands of years prior to that.

Today, many people hear the word “yoga” and think, "AH...RELAXATION." My own husband greets me after yoga practice with, “How’d it go, Grasshopper?” I have to admit that I too, had a different opinion of yoga before I began taking classes. I had no idea what I was in for…

To begin with, wouldn’t you want to reduce stress, tone your muscles, become stronger and more flexible, and improve your mental outlook? That’s a “no-brainer, right?” Now, would you want to do all of those things if you knew you’d be sweating buckets, supporting your body weight on quivering arms, and listening to your muscles scream? The answer must be a resounding, “YES!", because over thirty million Americans currently practice Hatha yoga.

Welcome to yoga!

Is yoga an effective weight loss activity? You bet it is! You only need to take one power yoga class to answer that question. In fact, yoga offers a “double whammy!” In addition to the obvious physical benefits of burning calories and fat, the practice of yoga reduces anxiety and stress, which in turn, reduces recreational eating.
