MOTIVATION FOR
WEIGHT LOSS

Okay, it’s time to start another diet!
Are you in desperate need of motivation for weight loss! If you’re like me, you’ve stretched out every possible day you can. You’ve exhausted all of your excuses. “I’ll start after the luncheon on Wednesday,” has become, “I’ll start Monday!” How will you ever get the motivation to begin? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Read on…

One of the best pieces of weight loss motivation advice I’ve come across is from a book by Linda Spangle, called 100 Days of Weight Loss. She asks the reader to consider the following question:

Are you interested in losing weight or
are you committed to losing weight?

Welcome to Motivation for Weight Loss! The difference between being interested and being committed is HUGE! The author goes on to explain that when you’re interested in losing weight, you’ll diet until something better comes along. In other words, you’ll be “good on your diet” until you’re confronted with pizza or a margarita or whatever your favorite treat happens to be. You’ll stay on your diet until you hit a plateau or until the going gets tough.

According to Linda Spangle, when you’re committed to losing weight, nothing is going to get in your way! You’ll pass up the temptations because they won’t be as important as your weight loss goal. Your weight loss motivation will be a result of your commitment! You’ll power through plateaus because you’ll understand that eventually the weight will drop when you’re following your plan. It’s a huge difference, right?

Another big difference between between interested and being committed is your "diet frame of mind." If you're merely interested in losing weight, you'll feel deprived and resentful when being "forced" to make wise food choices. A committed dieter, however, feels stronger as every wise choice is made. This person isn't resentful because they understand that the choice puts them that much closer to their goal!

So, let your motivation for weight loss be tied to the question:

Are you interested in losing weight or
are you committed to losing weight?

So often people wait to start a diet until they’re motivated. After years and years of dieting and succeeding and dieting and failing, I’m convinced that the motivation generally comes later in the diet journey. So, another good piece of weight loss motivation advice I’d like to offer is,

”Start NOW and the motivation WILL come!”

Many people get their weight loss motivation through external forces instead of being self-motivated.
Having before-and-after pictures available or a favorite pair of jeans that are currently too small can be very motivating. Watching your inches drop instead of just watching the scale can be motivating. There are many tips such as these that will provide you with motivation for weight loss.
