FAQ:
How can I build my confidence?

Voted "Best Answer" by Yahoo!Answers

Hi, most of the time when people lack self-confidence, it's because they focus on their negatives instead of their positives. For example, a girl with a large nose often misses that she has beautiful eyes. Another common reason is that teenagers have a need to be like everyone else instead of celebrating their uniqueness. Finally, self-esteem issues are often due to living with overly critical people, who point our your faults instead of your attributes.

I think one of the easiest ways to deal with self-esteem issues is to journal. I think it's important to recognize what you like about your life and what you don't like.

I think it's important to make a list of the things you can change and the things that you can't change. For example, if you're overweight, that is something that you can control. If you are self-conscious because you're extra short, that is not something you can control.

It think it's important to recognize that some of the things you can't change today, will change on their own with time. For example, growing up, I lived in a house with parents who fought and a stepmother who criticized all the time. I recognized from an early age that I couldn't change much at home, but that at age 17, I could get away from it by going to college, and that by the time I graduated from college, I could move anywhere I wanted to. That's what I did! I graduated and moved five states away and I haven't been sorry once! Now I can put up with all those home issues when I choose to, on my own terms!

So, my best suggestion is to buy a spiral notebook or a pretty journal in a bookstore, or download a journal from online, and start writing. Spend some time each day doing this. Make sure that each night before going to bed, you write at least 3 things that you're grateful for--no matter how hard you have to look for things during the day. It's incredibly important to focus on the positive. Have a section of your journal for the lists I mentioned earlier and a section for your goals or dreams. Start focusing on the positive in life, instead of the negative. You'll find that you start attracting that positive energy from others. Good luck!
